THE BRIEF

We’ve been working with Virgin Media since 2010 to:
  • Engage staff and the external sustainability community in the company’s efforts to become a more responsible and sustainable business
  • Bring the company’s sustainability story to life through a smarter use of digital media

OUR APPROACH

We’ve worked with Virgin Media to use what they’re known for – the best in digital entertainment – to help them tell a richer, more engaging story about sustainability. This has involved:
  • Making sustainability accessible with an infographic language for the different chapters that together, tells the whole sustainability story
  • Creating a content rich online media portal that shows what’s going on behind the scenes to help make the business more sustainable. Featuring news articles, videos and social media
  • Making Virgin Media staff the stars of the show. After all, the best way to engage staff in sustainability is to get them involved in telling the story. With help from us, Virgin Media staff produce most of the video content on the site themselves

IMPACT

Virgin Media’s open and human approach is widely recognised as an innovation in sustainability reporting and corporate transparency. Indications that the approach is effective at engaging people inside and outside the business include:
  • 200+ employees involved in films to date
  • Monthly unique visits to sustainability website 5000+
  • Average visitor spends over 4 mins on the site
  • Regular tweets using the tag #vmsust
  • Virgin Media staff put forward their own ideas about initiatives and content
